| OBITUARY NED SABAN Brother Ned Saban fell asleep in the Lord on June 30, 2026, peacefully departing this life at the extraordinary age of 100 years, 3 months, and 2 days, leaving behind an enduring legacy of faith, family, service, and generosity. Ned was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Loretta Livingston Saban, and his son, Dennis Ned Saban. He is survived by his loving daughter, Marcie Saban, along with many extended family members, cherished friends, and countless others whose lives he touched. Born and raised in Globe, Arizona, Ned was the first of six children born to Ilija and Milica, Serbian immigrants of Montenegrin descent. He moved to the Valley in 1955 with his young family. Shortly after arriving, he played an instrumental role in purchasing property for the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Phoenix, where he faithfully served as parish council president for a number of years. As the parish grew, Ned oversaw and generously supported numerous construction and renovation projects on the church property. In 1981, together with several close friends, he helped establish the American Slavic Association across from the church, further strengthening the Serbian-American community he loved so deeply. Ned’s love for his family, friends, and faith was evident in everything he did. Throughout his life, he built a successful career through a variety of business ventures, including Standard Oil service stations in Globe and Phoenix, real estate investments, restaurants, bars, and car and truck rental agencies. His strong work ethic, integrity, and entrepreneurial spirit earned him the admiration and respect of everyone who knew him. A proud patriot, Ned faithfully served his country during World War II in the U.S. Cavalry in the Pacific Theater, participating in the liberation of Manila in 1945 under the command of General Douglas MacArthur. His military service reflected the courage, honor, and commitment that defined his entire life. Beyond his many accomplishments, it was Ned’s character that left the greatest impression. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and heard. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing words of encouragement, or simply greeting someone with his warm smile, Ned had a remarkable way of leaving every person better than he found them. His positive outlook on life was contagious, and his warm smile and wonderful sense of humor could brighten any room he entered. Those who knew him will remember not only what he accomplished, but more importantly, how he made people feel. Ned lived a life of purpose, generosity, unwavering faith, and service to others. His memory will forever remain a blessing to his family, friends, and the community he loved so dearly. Although his earthly journey has come to an end, the faith he lived, the family he cherished, and the community he helped build will continue to bear witness to a life exceptionally well lived. The funeral took place on July 18 at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Phoenix. Interment was at Hansen Desert Hills Cemetery. Memory eternal. Vječnaja Pamjat. |
