Marija “Mara” Babic, age 74, passed away Friday evening September 18, 2026 in Chicago. Born February 10, 1952, to the late Petar and the late Anna Babic, she was the beloved mother of Petar Djordjic; loving grandmother of Petar Anthony Djordjic; cherished great-grandmother of Aria Djordjic; sister of Slobodan (Mira) Babic and aunt of Snezana. 

Mara was raised in Wisconsin and attended Marquette University Medical School. She obtained her RN license and came to Chicago in 1976 where she cared for many patients. She had a great love for music and was a talented accordion player in the Avala Orchestra. 

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends in the United States and abroad. Visitation Friday, September 25, 2026 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. with Pomen 7 p.m. at Muzyka & Son Funeral Home, 5776 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, IL. Funeral Saturday, September 26, 2026, 11 a.m. at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery, 32377 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Interment St. Sava Cemetery.
